Most home improvement consultants do not usually remember paving or repaving the driveway, but it is an important part of home improvement. It is also quite expensive regardless of the material you use. Common paving materials include the use of concrete blocks and asphalt. Poor paving will always cause pooling of water along the driveway, and soon potholes and general damage on the driveway is noticed. However, a quality job can last up to twenty years after the installation of the paving. Redoing the paving costs almost the amount that was initially used for the paving. Since we have been paving since 1959 we at McFarlane Paving know this to be true: when you have quality paving contractors in NJ, you get a quality driveway. Today we'd like to offer some advice on how to make sure you're getting a job well done.
Do some due diligence before hiring a contractor
Paving Contractor in NJ |
Look at the reputation and previous work done by the paving contractor. You can also get recommendations from friends and family. The ideal contractor should have proper licensing, insurance and should be bonded. He should have a workers compensation program and liability insurance too. Do not be so much obsessed with the pricing over other terms of the service. Look to get a deal with a mix of quality service and pricing. On our website we have a gallery of some of our work that we are proud of. For as long as we have been in business we have been fully insured and have followed all the rules and regulations. As for pricing, we offer free estimates.
Be wary of the con tactics
There are those contractors that claim to have been working in the neighborhood and have left over
materials that give them an opportunity to give you a discount. Moreover, keep away from others that try to convince you that they have a breakthrough technology and are going to work differently. If the offer is too good to be true, it is probably not true. Very low prices are a sign that the contractor is likely to cut corners when doing his work. You will pay more in the very end.
At McFarlane Paving, we know the proper procedures to get the job done exceptionally well. We have never cut corners and never will because we aim to provide beautiful driveways for your home.
Know the paving standards
If you are going to hire asphalt contractors, they are going to apply a layer on the existing driveway or redo the driveway from scratch. If they apply a layer on top of the existing gravel, it should be at least two inches. If they are going to tear the driveway apart and redo it again, they should apply at least three inches of asphalt.
If you opt for concrete, the contractor should ensure that the concrete slabs are strong enough to handle heavy traffic. The slabs should be placed on leveled ground so that there no pockets that are left for the water pools to collect.
