We've discussed the history of paving in a past blog, a long-time tradition that began in the Roman period. Engineering paving methods has modified as our loads shifted, becoming heavier and requiring a more durable material to support the additional weight. In 1870, the United States was introduced to paving by means of New Jersey. In this year, the front of Newark City Hall was paved with a sand mix - paving in NJ sparked what became a national industry! The 1900s showed rapid growth within the asphalt paving industry. The first asphalt facility to closely replicate modern methods was built in Massachusetts. Though facilities continued to spring up, it wasn't until the second World War that the asphalt industry boomed in response to a need for surfaces to support military aircraft. Once our boys came home victorious and the rise of the suburb emerged, a need for more paving increased dramatically to meet the new demand.

In the early 1950s, innovation within the asphalt industry allowed for bigger and better equipment to get the job done more efficiently. By the end of the 1950s, McFarlane Paving began, meeting the needs of new homeowners and business owners. Paving in NJ has been our business since then, and we've worked hard to give thousands of residents asphalt paving solutions to last for years.

Developments are continuous, and emphasis on quality allows for paving methods that create truly long-term results. You might be surprised by how much the paving in front of Newark's City Hall resembles today's paving in NJ, however production and equipment developments allow for more efficient, precise, and smoother paving.

Since 1959, McFarlane Paving has emphasized the need to provide New Jersey residents with quality paving methods and practices. Through the years, we've seen many advancements within the paving industry, reinventing our NJ paving business to reflect working trends. Because of this, we've developed as a trusted, reliable paving company serving the needs of our residential and commercial customers.
